You are, you are, you are.
Say it with me – I am beautiful, I am beautiful, I am beautiful. I am beautiful with acne and I can be beautiful without acne.
Now, I have big news 😀 – science papers are revealing – what causes acne on the chin.
There is an answer my friend and I’m here to guide you to it, plus help you…
- Understand the meaning of acne on your chin
- Chin acne causes
- And how to get rid of chin acne
Sounds pretty awesome right 🙂 So let’s get going…
What Causes Acne On The Chin?
I know part of what’s making you feel so out of control with acne is not knowing why chin acne’s happening to you. It’s horrible feeling so sad and not knowing what to do about it. I know because I’ve been where you are now. I once also had hot, red and angry cystic chin acne. Acne made me feel insecure, embarrassed and anxious.
Are you feeling this way too?
Don’t worry my friend, I’m here to help get you feeling more like your beautiful, confident self again.
Here’s the dealiO, take a peek at this science study quote – psst – don’t worry if it sounds a bit gooky, I’m explaining everything after.
It is well recognized that hormonal acne concentrates in the lower third of the face along the chin and jaw lines.Clin Cosmet Investig Dermatol. 2016; 9: 241–248
Spoiler alert – what causes acne on the chin? It’s hormones my friend – but not the ones you think.
Acne on Chin Meaning
Science shows us acne on your chin, jawline and the lower third part of your face is a big warning you have hormonal chin acne.
Most women think chin acne’s caused by sex hormones – and it’s kind of true, however, sex hormones are not the ‘Mother Hormone’ of your chin acne. Oh no.
Do you remember learning the food chain at school? Where you have a big, bad ‘apex predator’ at the top?
Let me give you an example – the Polar bear (!) The Polar bear eats the seal – which eats the fish – which eats plankton – which eats algae.
We want to tackle, confront and heal the Apex predator of your acne – your skin’s Polar bear.
Thinking sex hormones are the cause of your chin acne is like coming in halfway through the Polar bear food chain. Sex hormones are little players, the ‘fish of your acne’.
Even if you read science papers you’ll get side-tracked by the classic androgen hormones causing your chin acne. Peek at this;
…there is an increased sensitivity of the receptors to androgens at the pilosebaceous unit..Clin Cosmet Investig Dermatol. 2016; 9: 241–248
De-gooking time (!) all pilosebaceous means is your pore. And you can think of androgen receptors being like light switches that can only be ‘turned on’ 😉 by androgens. The pores on your chin have more of these light switches meaning your chin area is prone to acne.
It also means you can have perfectly normal looking androgen levels but still be breaking out like crazy.
The mistake most women make is thinking they have no control over their sex hormones and then only using anti-acne skincare to ‘get rid of acne’ – trying to treat what’s being caused internally, externally.
I know you’re not going to do this my friend 🙂 because you’re here with me.
And here’s the question we’re asking together – what is making my androgen levels higher than is normal for me?
Chin Acne Causes
Take a Google and you’re going to find a list of chin acne causes like this;
- Stress – isn’t it so annoying when someone says your acne’s due to stress eh
- Maskne (you will know if you have this because your acne’s only been caused by wearing a mask)
- Genetics (I hate this one because it makes you feel like there’s nothing you can do about chin acne – psst – there’s a heck load of ways you can heal your chin acne, even when genetics make you acne prone)
- Certain medications
- Oily skin
- Fluctuating hormones
This list is helpful but again – it’s not your Polar bear.
We’re here to heal your chin acne Polar bear. The #1 cause of your chin acne.
And for 90% of the women with acne I work with, it goes by the name of insulin and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1 for short). Both are hormones. Hormones that right now are telling your body to make extra sebum and to make the androgens in your body ‘extra available’ (aka single/it’s complicated/in an open relationship).
What Causes Cystic Acne On Chin?
Peek with me at this science quote and please, please don’t worry if it sounds like science-gook, I’m de-gooking for you after;
insulin inhibits SHBG production from the liver and further plays a positive feedback effect on adrenal and ovarian androgenesis.Clin Cosmet Investig Dermatol. 2016; 9: 241–248
Boom. So my friend SHBG stands for sex hormone-binding globulin, it’s like Pac-man to androgens in your body – it eats them up to stop them from having a potent, chin acne causing impact on your body. Insulin hormones prevent Pac-man from eating and so your body’s getting more androgens and boom – more chin acne.
This same study also tells us insulin hormones tell your body to make more androgens.
Bottom line – what causes acne on the chin? It’s highly likely you have imbalanced insulin hormones – it’s a key cause of chin acne. I have a free cheatsheet I’m sharing soon that’s going to help you fix this.
Will Hormonal Acne Go Away?
You were told you would grow out of acne but you never did.
Psst – If you have chin acne and you’re an adult – you will not grow out of it unless you confront your chin acne triggers.
Doing nothing is like wanting to ‘get fit’ but never exercising. I mean if this could happen – amazing. But our human bodies don’t work this way – we need to change how we care for ourselves to change our body health and our skin health.
Bottom line – hormonal acne can go away if you make changes which help turn down insulin and therefore androgen hormones.
How Do I Get Rid of Hormonal Chin Acne?
So glad you asked my awesome friend. You ask me all the right questions 🙂 The number one science proven way you can heal from hormonal chin acne is to start controlling your insulin hormones.
Insulin hormones get released for a swimming pool of reasons and the biggest of them all is what you eat.
This is actually amazing news because it means every day you get a chance to significantly impact your body’s hormone balance. Instantly. If you make the right changes you can see your chin acne healing… and quickly.
Psst – some healthy foods tell your body to release huge amounts of insulin. It’s why you can be eating healthy and ‘doing all the things’ but not seeing your chin acne healing.
It’s a huge part of how I got clear and if you click this link you could be seeing your skin start to clear too 😀.
I can’t wait to hear you say, ‘Cheryl, I’m finally clear, I’ve had no new chin acne in over a month!’. Just imagine what that’s going to feel like. How much more confident and in control of your skin you’re going to be.
Goodbye chin acne 😀👋.
