Cellulite, Saaaaayyy what! That word feels a bit like Harry Potter land not being able to say the ‘V’ word. The beauty gossip is once you have ‘orange peel’ skin, it’s sticking to you like glue and there ain’t nothing you can do about it. Well let’s empower ourselves lovelies, their ain’t nothing we can DO nothing about!! Let’s sit down with a cuppa and chat ‘what the heck is cellulite’ and ‘How to reduce cellulite’. Trust me once you understand what it is, it starts to make sense what MIGHT actually work – hooray!
The first stop in understanding how to reduce cellulite is to understand what the heck it is. Just hearing THAT word, makes you want to run and hide, ya know, because we’ve been told there ain’t nothing you can do about it AND, well if we can run and hide from it, why wouldn’t we. It makes perfect, logical sense *wink wink*!
Cellulite is kinda like bubble wrap. Warning: Stationary analogy coming attcha. So that bubbles wrap, if you saw it before it left the factory, before it had been pumped full of that ‘oh so fun to squish out’ air, it would be flat and dimple free! Then when it gets pumped full of air, that air flows into the little pockets that bubble wrap already has and, BOOM, therapy strength bubble wrap ready to POP. Cellulite forming in skin is SNAP to therapy strength bubble wrap. See under your top layer of skin, there are little skin ‘pockets’ that are exactly like a bubble wrap, ‘bubble’. WHAT MAKES YOU ‘AT RISK’ OF GETTING CELLULITE?
The key reason you may develop cellulite is because you are female. Yozer! Why? Geez these men get off so lightly ‘ey! There are 3 main and BIGGY differences between the skin of men and women.
Firstly, and the MAIN reason why men do not tend to suffer from cellulite, is that their connective tissue is different, instead of making ‘skin pockets’ like ours, men’s make something looking more like a sieve that doesn’t make those ‘therapy strength’ poppable bubbles. Next is that their top layer of skin is ‘thicker’, that makes it harder for any fat to ‘poke’ through. Men’s final ‘cellulite saver’ is they have LESS body fat, it’s normal for a women to have 20-25% and a man to have 10-15%. That is A-ok lovelies, we can rest safe in the knowledge that IF there was an apocalypse, and supermarkets were no longer, our bodies have a topped up survival supply – hooray!

This doesn’t mean ‘diet to lose weight’, oh no lovelies, don’t let me separate you from those awesome chef-ups you got going on in your kitchen! Even if you have your ‘perfect’ figure, you might still have cellulite because of your body fat %. Having a slimmer figure, doesn’t actually mean you are healthier. Someone who ‘technically’ would weight wise be slim, could have the same body fat % as someone who weight wise would fall into ‘over-weight’. It’s the same way that body-builders ‘technically’ fall into being ‘obese’ because they weigh ALOT, the scales don’t notice that that is ALLLLLLL muscle baby!
This is your FIRST way to reduce the appearance of cellulite by reducing your body fat %. That means get your body some fun-loving exercise and a munch down on a SUPERFOOD balanced diet!

2. REDUCE CELLULITE BY STRENGTHENING SKIN
Cellulite can look worse as skin ages because skin gets ‘weaker’. Think of all the balloons you used to get from friends parties when you were a ‘wee’ little ‘un. Balloons are like a super sped-up version of our skin aging. When balloons get older, they get weaker, and where their once smooth balloon like shape once was they start to ‘ripple’ and ‘dimple’. Wherever the balloon gets weaker, stuff gets less smooth.
So lovelies, we need to keep skin healthy and strong. That means it will be thicker, more elastic and less likely to ‘SHOW’ cellulite.
The Mayo Clinic quote a study that showed using a Vitamin A (Retinol) cream over 6 months, reduced the appearance of Cellulite. WHOOO! Vitamin A is a little skin hero, from acne fighting to anti-aging. One of its super-powers is to THICKEN skin. You’re already there aren’t you (!) you’re just TOO awesomely quick at joining these dots. Vitamin A makes skin ‘thicker’ and stronger which can reduce the appearance of cellulite. Whay!

Apart from Vitamin A, I would also recommend other skin strengthening and skin ‘stimulating’ ingredients like Vitamin C and fruit based acids like Glycolic. Body brushing/a good ol’ Loofa to strengthen skin AND protection (sunscreen! & antioxidants) to stop skin getting weaker.
