A smart, science based solution targeted only to treat the bits of your skin biology in screaming need of help. A product you can turn to without fear for your long-term skin health. One which works.
Cystic acne is skin code for help I’m struggling. What you’re seeing on the outside is a silent charade worthy enactment of your immune system going someone-just-ate-my-last-chocolate crazy on the inside.
You do not have to live with cystic acne my friend. Oh no – there are cystic acne treatments which work.
Come find out why your acne’s become red, inflamed and cystic, what’s causing you cystic acne and exactly what you can use to help get rid.
Ready to get 1-step ahead of yours? Let’s do this dear friend…

What’s the Main Cause of Cystic Acne?
All types of spot start in your pores. Think of your pores like saucepans, ready and waiting to cook up/mix-together/brew up an acne storm… or be healthy, clear and unseeable.
A small collection of skin oil and dead skin cells can make all the difference.
Naturally your skin creates oils (sebum) from oil glands/oil hosepipes deep inside your pores. When your skin’s happy, these oils flow out from your pores to helpfully moisturise your skin.
But sometimes these oils get trapped.
Imagine a gigantic, weighty foot stepping down hard on your hosepipe. Aka a crusty collection of past-their-best dead skin cells.
When the top of your pores become sealed off;
- Sebum is trapped
- Your pores expands
- Dead skin cells stew in oil
- Bacteria feed
- Your immune system begins fighting – what you see as red, inflamed cystic acne
The main cause of the symptoms you’re seeing as cystic acne is infection. Step 4. Invading bacteria treat your pores like a reusable dinner plate not caring what they leave behind or how they treat you while there. They live inside your house without cleaning, tidying or redecorating.
And your skin police say no – this is not OK.
What Bacteria Causes Cystic Acne?
When you have cystic acne you have a bacterial infection which has burrowed down deep inside your pores. Now the most common type of bacteria associated with causing acne goes by the name propionibacterium acnes or p.acnes for short.
Note: Healthy skin is home to lots of bacteria – don’t worry, your face isn’t dirty, problems come only when certain strains grow out of control – more about this soon.
Once the most well-known acne bacteria, p.acnes gets munching on your trapped oily dead skin cells, the bits p.acnes poops out irritate, inflame and damage your pores.
…making your skin vulnerable to becoming bacteria party central. P.acne opens the door and all kinds of bacteria flood in.
Can Acne be Caused by a Staph Infection?
Did you know the bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus or s.aureus for short) which causes a staph infection can be found on 40-50% of us? And that an average 43% of people with acne have skin which is home to the staph infection causing, s.aureus bacteria.
Although p.acnes is the number 1 bacteria scientists believe to be a primary cause of acne, other bacteria like s.aureus are being found to have close links with cystic acne.

The troublesome s.aureus bacteria is particularly good at burrowing deep, imagine s.aureus like a skin villain with a vibrating concrete drill. As s.aureus burrows, your skin’s damaged and your immune system’s activated – what you’re seeing as inflammation and redness aka cystic acne.
What Kills Acne Causing Bacteria?
To get rid of your acne you need to defeat at least 1 of the 3 key causes of acne;
- Oily skin
- Trapped dead skin
If you kill off the bacteria causing you acne you can still have oily skin or even trapped dead skin cells, but you won’t have cystic acne. Without the 3rd pillar a triangle’s no longer a triangle and your acne is no longer active. Boom.
Antibiotics are a very common treatment for cystic acne because they make your acne triangle, flatline.
But antibiotics are not an effective cystic acne treatment for all kinds of cystic acne because some acne causing bacteria are resistant – doh (!)
Plus there’s side effects to consider. Using antibiotics is like cooking yourself sweet potato wedges on high heat for over 12 hours – once done, nothings left. Even healthy skin bacteria get defeated.
Psst! Ever gotten bad tummy after a course of antibiotics? Now you know why.
Antibiotics can be your skin heroes but their results are not side-effect free.
Reasons why using antibiotics for acne is not ideal;
- Antibiotics aren’t effective against antibiotic resistant bacteria
- Using antibiotics as a treatment for cystic acne also kills off all your good skin bacteria – like a Facebook friends clear-out gone wrong
- You can’t use antibiotics forever, antibiotics are not a long-term solution for your cystic acne
How to Treat Cystic Acne
Yikes, so if antibiotics for acne are a no-go, how’s best to kill off acne causing bacteria? Don’t worry dear friend, what I’m about to share with you is a cystic acne treatment without worrying antibiotic side effects.
Imagine if instead of killing off every bacteria on your skin aka de-friending everyone on Facebook you could selectively kill off only the acne causing bacteria or the cystic acne causing bacteria?
Well dear friend, this is not some sci-fi solution you’ll have to wait 100 years for – this is your here and now, thanks to a company called Micreos and a skincare brand called Gladskin.
Gladskin Acne Gel Review
Most over the counter cystic acne treatments which work to kill off acne causing bacteria do the same as antibiotics, they kill off everything they touch plus they leave your skin dry and damaged after. Think of benzoyl peroxide.
Gladskin acne gel is different.
Gladskin acne gel uses selective bacteria killers. These guys have eyes… and they only get granted a license to kill when bumping into 1 kind of bacteria – s.aureus.
The acne bacteria killers found in Gladskin formulas are a type of enzyme going by the fancy name of endolysins. Strange sounding and easier to think of as Ed – someone who knows exactly what he wants.
When Ed bumps into an s.aureus bacteria he knows precisely how to make s.aureus go weak at the knees, defeating the bacteria’s cell wall and making all the squishy stuff come out – game over.
If your cystic acne’s being caused by an s.aureus staph infection – gladskin acne gel can help wave your cystic acne symptoms goodbye.
Studies are showing the selective enzymes gladskin use are;
- Not ever likely to suffer bacterial resistance – as they target a corner of the bacteria cell it’d be really hard for them to evolve against
- Effective against antibiotic resistant acne bacteria – if antibiotics didn’t help your cystic acne try gladskin acne gel
- Can be used as a long-term remedy without side effects
- Exclusively (this guy likes commitment!) targets s.aureus and leaves your other healthy skin bacteria alive and thriving
Your acne is like a domino train of carefully stacked acne causes. Once one’s removed, the others can’t topple.
Does Gladskin Acne Gel Work?
S.aureus is the most common bacteria alive known to cause skin infections. And with over 40% of people carrying s.aureus on their skin, it’s very likely your cystic acne is being made red and inflamed by an s.aureus party.
Gladskin acne gel will work as a cystic acne treatment if your acne is caused, worsened or aggravated by an s.aureus staph infection.
Here’s what you can expect if yours is;
- Strong decrease of inflammatory symptoms
- Significant reduction in redness
- Significant reduction of papules and pustules
- With best bit: No skin damaging side effects
Which is a sciency way of saying your cystic acne symptoms get significantly better and could even resolve.
With this said, it’s only right to repeat – this will happen only if your cystic acne is caused, worsened or aggravated by an s.aureus infection.
So just how long should you wait to see if gladskin acne gel will kick butt to your cystic acne? 4 to 6 weeks – simple.
