Oh MY! Now this is a skincare ingredient you NEED in your pocket, or beautiful, leather Mulberry, *wink wink*. Whichever kinda pocket you have Oats will give, give, give! OATS love all types of skin, because they are bursting with skin love. They are especially special (oh yes ‘especially special’) for dry, sensitive and irritated skin types. Here comes 4 awesome reasons why you NEED oats in your skincare.

Oats are not JUST an awesome breakfast for heart health. Oats in skincare are also AWESOME for skin health, especially dry, irritated and sensitive skin types!

Water, water all around but not a drop to drink! This is why, when we talk oats in skincare, we talk ‘colloidal‘ oats, that is just another name for really, really small, ground up, tiny oat ‘powder’. Your skincare can absolutely contain oats without it looking like you fed your skin your 5 minute porridge oats! Whoop whoop! That powder is SO fine, that if skincare contains oats, the only way to tell is to peek down that ingredients list for Oats ‘nickname’ of Avena Sativa Kernel Flour.

1. OATS IN SKINCARE – ACTIVATE YOUR SKIN’S OWN IMMUNE SYSTEM

If we had a microscope, those little oat grains would surely have a red cape and some sexy blue lycra going on – it’s only rightful that they get the ‘dress’ to go with those super powers ‘ey! Oats are really, really good at communicating. Picture your most motivational, talkative pal, the one that could convince you into any kinda action (whether that ends up in glory, or giggles!). Well oatmeal my friend is like that pal to your skin. There are some skincare ingredients that get to call themselves ‘cell-communicating’ ingredients and oats are exactly that.

So what gets said in the forever friendship of oats and skin? We want ‘IN’ on this chatter right!

We call oats, ‘oats’, but really there are a TON of ingredients in that little flake. It’s like cooking up a storm with those 20 leftovers you found in the back of your freezer (aren’t they just the BEST meals!), so many ingredients in one yummy thing. Oats are just the same, but they are ‘ready-mixed’ naturally – oh yea! #TimeSaver. One of the AWESOME skin loving HEROS in oats are, wait for it, drummmm rolllll, beta-glucan!!!

Oats are not JUST am awesome breakfast for heart health. Oats in skincare are also AWESOME for skin health, especially dry, irritated and sensitive skin types!

Beta-glucan, is the chatterbox that tells your skin to HEAL. This is why oats in skincare are awesome, they activate your skin’s own immune system. #PutItToWork

Imagine your skin is like a car that just won’t start, Oats are the jump leads that get you access to your skin’s OWN healing powers. This is special because, instead of ‘giving’ your skin something to treat the symptom, oats get your skin doing what it should be doing anyway AND better, at super-power speed! This means oats are super awesome for skin that needs help to heal – sunburn, irritation, sores, rashes, wounds (spot caused)… When your skin is calling for HELP, oats in skincare will come to your rescue.

2. OATS IN SKINCARE TO BALANCE SKIN PH

Shocking skin fact! Did you know, your skin is acidic? It is 2 to 3 steps away from neutral, naturally, with a pH of 4.2-5.5, water has a pH (usually) of 7, that’s why sometimes water can ACTUALLY DRY & IRRITATE your skin. Skin being a bit acidic is what makes our skin so super protective of US! This is skin defence at its best.

Most skin troubles are either caused by or partnered by an upset skin pH!

Because your skin is designed to be a tad acidic, when it is NOT, stuff goes WRONG! It’s like trying to make ice in a factory in Australia in the MIDDLE of super-hot-day AND without air conditioning. Stuff just doesn’t work the way it should. When your skin pH is outta whack, all the things skin normally does are an uphill battle.

Oats are not JUST am awesome breakfast for heart health. Oats in skincare are also AWESOME for skin health, especially dry, irritated and sensitive skin types!

OATS TO THE RESCUE! If your skin is feeling all itchy, it’s probably because your skin pH has somehow found itself at neutral, it took a wrong turn and couldn’t find its way back. That’s ok though! You now know how to show it – oats in skincare! If you have more pronounced skin irritations like eczema, then your skin pH has wondered further down that neutral road, and ended up at Alkaline street! A skin pH of 8 is not unusual if you suffer from eczema.

Here is the magic. Studies show that after using colloidal oats, skin pH went back to NORMAL and HEALTHY straight away!!

3. OATS IN SKINCARE TO SOOTHE (ANTI-IRRITATION)

Back in ‘The day’ if you had irritated skin then your nearest and dearest would bundle you into an OATMEAL bath. They wouldn’t stay and watch *jokes* but they would absolutely tell you to get your butt into a tub with some oatmeal ASAP. See oatmeal has a lotta history, we actually KNEW it worked WAY  before we knew WHY!

Oats are not JUST am awesome breakfast for heart health. Oats in skincare are also AWESOME for skin health, especially dry, irritated and sensitive skin types!

Another skin hero ingredient in oats, goes by the name Avenanthramides. These dudes know how to ‘chill’ skin out! You can think of them as a skin anti-histamine.

This super ‘chilled’ out ingredient in oats gets all involved in your skin chemistry (it’s that cell-communicating thing again, oats just can’t stop chatting!). When skin is getting all itchy and allergic-like, oats get ‘in the way’ of the cycle of itchy skin chemistry and say stop, let’s J-CHILL.

4. OATS IN SKINCARE FOR ANTIOXIDANT MARVELS

Our skin will age with time, that is natural and YOU my lovely will STILL look BEAUTIFUL! We can AID our skin in aging gracefully by dosing it with anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidant ingredients help to strengthen your skin, it’s like having a pal to help you out with those elbow-grease tasks. Skin protects us every day from light, heat, bacteria, pollution and a TON of other stuff. Antioxidants protect skin from getting all ‘worn’ out by that stuff. That means skin stays younger looking for longer – hooray!

Oats are not JUST am awesome breakfast for heart health. Oats in skincare are also AWESOME for skin health, especially dry, irritated and sensitive skin types!

Oats have a nice dose of Vitamin E, Caffeic acid, Ferulic acid AND Avenanthramides. These are ALL awesome anti-oxidants.

When skin is younger in ‘chemistry’ it finds being ‘healthier’ easier. It has more of an immune system. Imagine trying to compete for the ‘word’s strongest’ title with the FLU! That can make getting outta bed feel like you WON world’s strongest ‘ey! Topping skin up with antioxidants makes sure skin is in tip-top form to ‘take on the world’ and still be all bouncy and joyous after it has!
